Vidyasiri Scholarship 2022-23: Eligibility, Required Documents & Last Date

Vidyasiri Scholarship 2022-23: Vidyasiri Scholarship is a government-sponsored scholarship scheme for students belonging to economically backward classes. The main objective of the scholarship is to financially support students from backwards classes who wish to pursue post-matriculation studies. The scheme is administered by the Department of Backward Classes Welfare, Government of Karnataka.

The Government of Karnataka has made the scholarship distribution arrangement easier through ePass (Electronic Payment and application system of Scholarships). The ePass system enables the students to get their scholarships without any hassle.

The ePass system successfully brings together all welfare departments such as treasury, Secondary Scholarship Leaving Certificate (SSLC) database, colleges and banks for efficient and transparent scholarship distribution to eligible students.

Karnataka Government offers Vidyasiri Scholarship in three types: 

1. Free Hostel Accommodation/Fee for Post-Matric Courses: The government provides free hostel accommodation and fees for post-matriculation courses for students (who have passed 10th) belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), Other Backward Classes (OBC), economically backward classes categories.

2. Prathibha Puraskar Scholarship for SSLC/Secondary PUC: The Prathiba Puraskar Scholarship is given to students who have secured 90% or more marks in the SSLC/Secondary PUC examinations and are from the ST, SC, OBC, economically backward classes categories.

3. Full Course Fee concession for PMS FAAS, FC, and NUR: The Full Course Fee concession is provided to students with at least 75% attendance in the Post-Matriculation program and belonging to the ST, SC, OBC, economically backward classes categories.

Vidyasiri Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

  • Students belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) are eligible for the scholarship.
  • Students who have passed 10th standard from Karnataka Board and are pursuing post-matriculation courses in government-aided, local or non-aided institutions affiliated to Karnataka universities.
  • The applicant’s annual family income should not exceed INR 2.5 lakhs.
  • The applicant must be a resident of Karnataka.

Eligibility Criteria for all 3 types of Vidyasiri Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria for Free Hostel Accommodation/Fee for Post-Matric Courses

  • The student must be a resident of Karnataka.
  • The family income should not exceed INR 2,50,000 per annum.
  • The student should be enrolled in Post-Matriculation or PUC II course in any college located outside the limits of their local body (municipality/corporation)
  • The students belonging to SC/ST, OBC, BC and PwD categories should obtain at least 40% marks in the qualifying examination.
  • The students belonging to 2A, 3A and 3B categories should obtain a minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying examination.

Eligibility Criteria for Prathibha Puraskar Scholarship

  • The students should have a minimum of 90% marks in the SSLC or PUC exam.
  • The students belonging to Category-1 (related SC/ST/OBC/OWD) should have a family income of less than INR 1,00,000 per annum.
  • For students belonging to 2A, 2B, 3A, and 3B categories, the family income limit is INR 2,50,000 per annum.
  • Students must study in Higher education or Professional Courses approved by Karnataka Government.
  • This scholarship is available only once in a lifetime for each student.

Eligibility Criteria for Full Course Fee concession for PMS FAAS, FC, and NUR

  • Students belonging to SC/ST BC, OBC and differently-abled communities with more than 75% in the qualifying examination.
  • Students belonging to SC/ST should have a family income of less than INR 2,00,000 per annum.
  • Students belonging to SC/ST should have a family income of less than INR 1,00,000 per annum.

Documents Required for Vidyasiri Scholarship

Here is a list of documents that you will need to apply for the Vidyasiri Scholarship:

  1. Candidate Aadhaar card
  2. Date of birth certificate
  3. SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD certificate
  4. Senior Secondary Leaving Certificate (SSLC)
  5. Transfer Certificate (TC) from your school or college
  6. Family annual income certificate
  7. Student Bank details
  8. Passport size photos
  9. Residential certificate of Karnataka
  10. Disability certificate (if applicable)
  11. Fee receipt from school/college

If you are applying for the scholarship online, you will need to upload scanned copies of these documents. You may be asked to submit them at a later stage. Make sure to keep originals handy as well.

Vidyasiri Scholarship (ePASS) Reward Amount

The scholarship amount varies depending on the type of scholarship as well as the family income of the applicant. The detailed break-up is given below:

  • For Free Hostel Accommodation/Fee for Post-Matric Courses: Full course fee waiver + Free hostel accommodation expenses.
  • For Prathiba Puraskar: INR 1,500 per month for 10 months (INR 15,000 per annum)
  • For PMS-FAAS/FC/NUR: Full course fee waiver for the selected students.

How to Apply for Vidyasiri Scholarship?

The application process is entirely online. Students can apply for the scholarship through the official website of the Karnataka State Scholarship Portal.

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to fill out the application form and submit it.

Step 1. Visit the Karnataka State Scholarship Portal and click on “CREATE NEW ACCOUNT”.

Step 2. Enter your Aadhaar number to proceed with the registration process.

Step 3. Fill out the form with all the necessary details.

Step 4. After logging in, fill out the application form for the Vidyasiri scholarship.

Step 5. After filling and submitting the form online:

  • Take printouts of your submission.
  • Attach the necessary self-attested documents.
  • Verify the information for accuracy and submit it to the nearest Karnataka Student Scholarship Board office.

Check Vidyasiri Scholarship Application Status

You can check the status of your Vidyasiri scholarship application by following the steps below:

Step 1. Visit the official website KarePass.cgg.gov.in.

Step 2. Click on the link to “Student Services >> APPLICATION STATUS“.

Step 3. Next, enter your application number, academic year, SSLC details and date of birth.

Step 5. Finally, click on the “Get Status” option and the scholarship application status will be displayed on the screen.

Check Vidyasiri Scholarship Application Number

Student can retrieve their application number by following the steps below:

Step 1. Visit the KARePASS website.

Step 2. Click on the “KNOW YOUR APPLICATION NUMBER” button under the student services tab.

Step 3. Enter the necessary details such as fresh/renewal, SSLC year of passing, pass type, registration number and date of birth.

Step 4. After entering the details, click on the get scholarship details button.

The applicant’s application number will be displayed on the screen.

Note: This is only for Vidyasiri Scholarship applicants. Hostel applicants should click on the get hostel details button instead.

Vidyasiri Scholarship Selection Procedure

Student selection for Vidyasiri Scholarship will be based on the following:

  1. Student online submitted application form
  2. Documents required for Vidyasiri Scholarship
  3. Confirmation by college principals and inspection officers
  4. Submission by taluk backward classes welfare officers
  5. Verification of documents by taluk officers

After the taluk officers have verified the documents, they will be submitted online. A committee will be formed to select the eligible students for the Vidyasiri Scholarship. The committee will consider the following factors:

  • Annual family income
  • Academic performance
  • Extra-curricular activities

The selected students will be intimated through their registered mobile numbers. They will also be able to check their name in the list of selected students on the Vidyasiri Scholarship website.

Vidyasiri Scholarship Last Date

The last date to apply for the Vidyasiri Scholarship is 15 November, 2022. The application process is completely online. No offline applications will be accepted.
